Minutes AGM 7pm Thursday 21st January 2016

Present: Andy Sweeney, Brian Kay, Bruce Santer, Colin Lindsell, John Edwards, John Parsons, Keith Rutter,
Lawrence Reeves, Lyn Santer, Nigel Etheridge, Phil Hawkes, Phil Lee and Steve Stickland

Apologies: Apologies of absence were received from John Green, Mark Green, Chris Coombes and Keith Beilby

Last year’s AGM  The minutes of last year’s AGM was read by BS. All agreed it was a true record.
Treasurer’s Report: LS Lyn reported that there was £458.35 in the bank with a further £100 which had been used as a deposit for Wildwood. The stock of balls would only last for the next two events and would need to be replenished
Handicap Sec report: BS  Bruce reported that during the year the monthly events and handicaps were going well as usual. He queried handicap cuts at Dorset where last year the winners (single & pairs) were cut 1 shot each for the following event. The handicaps were discussed with the result that the meeting agreed to only the single events on day 1 and 2 would be cut using the current formulae. After day 3 (Sunday) the handicaps would revert back to the handicaps used before Dorset. Bruce then told the meeting that the R & A had proposed increasing the maximum handicaps above 28 and 36. The meeting was unanimous in voting that our Society would not adopt those increases.
Captain’s report: KR The captain had nothing to report except to thank everyone for their help and support during his three year tenure. He had really enjoyed his time and wished the new incoming Captain all the best and wished him well.
Election of Officers: It was no secret that Keith Rutter was to stand down as Captain after three years and John Edwards was proposed and seconded to be the new Captain.
Lyn told the meeting that she no longer wished to remain as treasurer.
Keith Rutter offered his services and he was duly proposed and seconded. Bruce was reappointed as handicap secretary.
Choice of Prizes: After much discussion including giving pro shop vouchers, free games (£3) etc., it was agreed to leave the prizes as they were i.e. a sleeve of balls (Srixon or otherwise or even different colours!!)
Dorset week-end: NE Nigel had already books 6 rooms for the week-end of 8th, 9th and 10th July 2016. Deposits were required at least 10 weeks before. The draw for the pair’s competition would be drawn once again on the Friday before start of play. However, Nigel and Phil L would be allowed to defend their trophy. Bruce stated that the winners of the pairs or singles could not also win the eclectic competition.
Wildwood: LS Lyn had already booked the Captains Cup competition at Wildwood for the Saturday 3rd September 2016 over 27 holes. She was delighted to tell the meeting that she had secured a 20% discount on this year’s fees and that the cost for the bacon butty, lunch and 27 holes would be £39.50 each. This will be further supplemented by the Society to bring the cost down even further and this would be decided further on in the year.
Presentation dinner/dance: There was a suggestion that we did not need the support of the Mon/Fri gang. Colin said the gang would be disappointed of there was no invitation to join us as they all enjoyed our evening. After discussion it was agreed that we would have another match against the gang on the Friday morning and that we would invite them to join us in for the evening dinner. The captain agreed to seek alternative venues and entertainment and report back by email to the members prior to any booking being made. Friday 11th or Friday 18th November was mooted as possible dates.
Bognor Regis Sailing Club: Following the fracas after our dinner/dance last year Colin has been banned for two years from entering the Sailing Club and John Parsons’ membership had lapsed and in any case he would not go back to the sailing club. A discussion then took place and the meeting agreed that for all intents and purpose the Golf Society had separated from the sailing Club for the time being but would not rule out a return at some time, possibly the dinner this year as the kitchen staff was particularly good at the moment.
Any Other Business:  Steve Stickland told the meeting that Chris Coombes had been admitted to hospital with heart complications ( “tubes ok but the pump needs maintenance” ) and would not probably play golf for another three months. The meeting past on their good wished to Chris via Steve.
Andy Sweeney asked whether Puttenham Golf Club would be too far to travel to. The general rule of thumb is 1 hour by car from Bognor. It was felt that Puttenham was indeed within the hour but whether we could play there on a Saturday was questionable although Andy has seen a banner outside the club welcoming Golf Societies. He would make enquiries.
There was no other business so the meeting was declared closed at 7.50pm.
