Milford March 2025
|
On a lovely sunny early spring day nine of us ventured out onto a
nice dry course. The greens had been sanded and were a mixture
of either fast or slow but true running and there was also some run
on the fairways.
The overall scores were quite close with only a shot separating the first three of Jacob, John G and Rob.
Jacob decided to try a different approach to his game sacrificing
distance and direction for safety and it worked as he achieved his
first win with a total of 31 points, well done.
The longest drive went to John Green on the 9th and Clive took the nearest the pin on the short downhill 17th.
Some notable shots of the day were John Green’s ball lodged off
the ground in a bramble bush (I seem to remember him doing a
similar thing at Hill Barn many years ago albeit a bit higher and in
a tree so it must be perfected skill). Clive’s 7 iron punch on the
tricky short par three 17th which ran across two tees down the hill
and ended up close enough to win nearest the pin and I managed
to land my ball on the grass island in the middle of the large
bunker on the 18th
.
There are two handicap adjustments, Jacob down to 27 and Keith
up to 21.
Not sure of the date for the next game at Crookhorn so please keep an eye on the society group chat

On a bright but chilly Saturday morning we ventured out for our first meeting of 2025. We managed to get an early tee time which at this time of year is a bonus. Despite the recent storms and rain the course was in reasonable condition. The greens were a bit bobbly but ran fairly true. If you ventured of the fairways the grass was long and muddy in places.
Seven members took part with a welcome return to Phil Lee back from Spain for a taste of real weather.
The first nearest the pin on the 3rd was missed by everyone so we opted for nearest in two on the 18th . This challenge was also not met. However nearest the pin in two on the 14th was won by Phil Lee who managed to get inside John greens’ effort which just managed to get on the green.
The first group out set a good pace despite my taking a tumble coming of the 10th resulting in a very soggy leg and dented pride.
The second group were a touch slower in there pace and arrived back in the clubhouse some 45 mins after the first group.
Once again there was a tie for first place, this time won by Rob on countback with myself coming second for two consecutive months.
Jacob had a very steady round scoring well.
The next outing is at Great Salterns GC Portsmouth on 22nd of February which Steve is organising. Please let him have availability asap.
Keith is organising the March game at Milford GC on March 29th. 8 players required to secure booking. Please can you all let him know if you are available.
Winter Rules
There seems to be some confusion regarding cleaning and placing a ball on the fairway.
You are only allowed to clean your ball and place it if your ball is on the fairway. You are not permitted to touch your ball to cleaned it if your ball has landed off the fairway. You must play it
from its position.
