Tournerbury December 2024

Awaiting report John E

Gatton Manor November 2024

Nice course, some great looking holes and some tricky ones, tree lined sloping fairways, water and lakes to get over would be good to get back there in the Summer.

Not many high scores from the 8 of us, nearest the pin on the 4th was won by Keith the only person to hit the green and stay on it, nearest the pin on the 10th got moved to the 14th and as none of us could hit either greens got moved to nearest the pin in 2 on the last which was won by Rob with a great shot in from 170 yards to 2ft and a birdie to finish the round.
I managed to find a bit of form on the back 9 and grabbed 17 points to add to the 11 on the front which won the day

Looking forward to Decembers match

Cheers

John

GREENWOOD September 2024

The Captains cup took place in damp conditions due to downpours the previous days. We had 6 members plus guest Clive who all enjoyed the very large bacon bap's and coffee to start the day. The greens were very slow with some bobbling. This didn't seem to concern Rob who won the day and the cup with 29.

In second place (on count back from Tom O) with 27 John Green and the Runners up Trophy.

We all missed the 6th green which is only 122 yards uphill so that was moved to the 18th longest drive where Andy beat Steve by 100 yards or so, well that's what he said.  NP 14th saw John G's name on the board.

There were a few handicap changes for low scores.

Hope to see you all at Wickham park

TOURNERBURY August 2024

Keith B organised the event but wasn't able to play as he had tested positive for Covid. Andy and Bruce sorted out the days event with nine of us taking part, on a good golfing day with sunshine, a nice breeze which became strong at times, lots of bounce and roll on the course.
At the halfway point there were only 3 points separating the top 5 players with Rob H nudging into the lead with 15 points.
As we all know its a game of two halves, especially as this is a 9 hole courses.
Jumping 5 places on the back nine including a 4 pointer on 16th  with 17 points, Andy won the day on 30 points.
NP on the 5th, John G piped Bruce to take the pin.
NP in two on the 200 yard par 3 hole 17th, saw Rob H take the glory, but disappointingly, not making the birdie, unlike John G who birdied the 15th par 5 for 4 points.

Yet again the Pro shop hadn't advised the canteen we wanted food before and asked us to ring them direct next time.

It was good to see John E joining us again.  A good day was had by all. Keith B is on the mend and fortunately had kept it too himself.

See you all on 7th Sept for the Captains Cup as East Horton.

Awaiting report from Steve

ROOKWOOD June 2024

The chance to play at Rookwood and the promise of a hot summer's day saw healthy numbers turnout. Those numbers were bolstered by two visitors.
The recent weather saw firm fairways and receptive greens. First blood at nearest the pin went to Jacob. He continued to attack the course throughout by unleashing his trademark long sometimes erratic drives. The second nearest the pin was grabbed by Steve. His steady play throughout the round saw him score consistently all day and finish on 36. The unluckiest participant was Tony Johnson who put together a very solid round which saw him just miss out on the overall win as well as both nearest the pin holes.

CROOKHORN May 2024

Sadly only four of us were able to make this event. The weather was overcast with the threat of thunderstorms. Fortunately this did not materialise, we only had a few short showers. The course was in good condition, the greens however varied in speed and most of us had trouble getting the ball in the pot.
It was certainly a tail of two halves for Bruce and Keith, Keith scoring 15 out and 5 back, Bruce 5 out and 15 back.
I had some trouble putting and a few lost balls and ended with a score of 15. Tom however took the days spoils with a magnificent performance scoring a massive 22 points and bagging nearest the pin.
Tom said afterwards that this must be the lowest winning score in history. Bruce however informed me later that he in fact he has this honour winning with 17 points back in December 2007 on the same course.
Tom has been cut for winning and Bruce and Keith get a shot back.
The next Match is at Rookwood Nr Horsham on 29th June and is being organised by Tom.
Please confirm availability as soon as you can.

awaiting report from Jacob

TOURNERBURY March 2024

A dry day at Tournerbury with the sun coming out during the round. Six players meet up at the cafe, but not open so could be a dry start.
Then the ladies arrived and informed us they open at 0900. They saved the day by making us coffee but no bacon roll. They suggested if we ring them when on the 17th tee they would have some ready when we got back to the cafe. Must remember to ring them and arrange for them to open earlier.
Course was very wet and no run on the ball, greens were good and dry. Not a very good day for some of us, but a enjoyable day. Jacob must work for the forestry commission as that was where he spent most of his time. Keith won the day with a score of 27 and also nearest the pin. Nobody was on the second nearest the pin. As said before not a good scoring day, as there were 50 blobs between us except for Keith who only had one. Thanks all those who played and hopefully see you at Horsham.

Hope to see you all at Horsham

Milford Feb 2024

A cold start to the day and only five players, everyone started off well first nearest the pin was on the second, which nobody got on the green.  Weather started to improve with some sunshine, course was in fairly good condition but everyone was struggling after not playing for so long.
Andy got nearest the pin on the 10th on the elevated 15th tee Andy shanked his shot, which ended up on the 14th green oops.
Scores were not brilliant but I think everyone was just glad to be playing again. I was nearest the pin on the 17th,  then took the long way across the lake on the 18th lovely shot but didn’t make par though.
Andy won the day with me a close second thanks to everyone who came look forward to seeing you all at Tournerbury in March.

Avisford Jan 2024

Four made it to Avisford Bruce, Robert, Jacob and myself

The recent weather meant the ground was rock solid and this made for an interesting round.
Nearest the pin in 2 on the 9th was won by Jacob who had a great tee shot and was just short of the green

The nearest the tee on the back was on the 13th with me having the only shot that landed on the green but due to it being rock hard bounced up and off the back so it was moved to the 18th

On the 18th Bruce had the tee shot of the day he fired his ball off the tee straight into the women’s tee red marker and it ended up 20 yards behind him and with none of the rest of us making the green we left it at that.

After the first 9 Jacob was leading the field but by the end of the round Bruce was holding the field up with Robert third Jacob second and i held on with a much better second 9 to take the balls
