Reports 2022

Tower Nov 2022

Thankfully we had an early tee time. Eleven members and guests gathered for an early bacon roll before teeing off at 9.00.
It was good to see Lyn take to the course despite not being able to get a buggy. A stirling effort, Lyn managed 12 holes.
Thankfully the course had dried out a little after the previous weeks of continuous downpours. Although a bit wet underfoot in places. The long grass on the fringes of the fairways made finding your ball a challenge if you strayed.
The greens where a little slow to start with but due to a fresh breeze dried out quickly.
It is good to see us getting enough players for a good competition.
There will be no match in December. The next match is to be organised by Rob H for January. He will be in touch once he has secured a course.
The winners of the nearest the pin on the 3rd and 14th were, Rob on the 3rd and Andy Sweeney on the 14th.
Overall winner of the day was Paul Brown on his second outing with us. Well done Paul.
Paul will be cut to 23 for our next outing.
Paul Smith will go up to 17 and Lyn to 42.
Thank you all for attending.
I wish you all a Very Merry Christmas.
Andy Sweeney

Boundary Lakes Oct 2022

A fine turnout of twelve players took on the challenge of Boundary Lakes at the Ageas Bowl. Amongst the twelve we were delighted to welcome three guests in Tony, Rob and Paul.

A crowded course meant play was slow on occasions but the warm autumnal weather and the frequent views over the stunning Hampshire countryside added to the enjoyment.

As the course is undergoing a complete reconfiguration it was the last chance to tee off on the daunting and very public first hole! For most of us, the challenge of the first hole was replicated by the remainder of the outward nine with scoring proving difficult. Only guests Rob and Paul performed to their handicap. The inward nine brought an improvement for most, with a very impressive 23 for John and 18 for Bruce.

Hitting the greens on the two ‘nearest the pin’ holes proved particularly demanding but John Green and Keith Beilby rose to the challenge and took the honours.

Congratulations to John who also went on to take the overall victory with 33 points. Keith Beilby and Rob Parry chased him home with 29.

Our next meeting will see us take on the familiar Tower course at Chichester on 26 November. Being close to home could see a good turnout. Look forward to seeing everyone there.

Tom.

Ps You didn't mention your 100 yard dash to catch your trolley.

Captains Cup - East Horton 2022

Nine players succumbed to the delights of playing 29 holes for the Captains Cup at East Horton. Looking back I see we didn't present the two trophies last year as no one qualified due to Covid curtailing games.
Starting on Parklands Jacob, now head and shoulders above everyone, started off with 4 points on the 1st two holes and managed to maintain the good start returning 27 and nearest the pin on 3rd. Closely followed by Bruce  25 and Keith B 24  and Tom 20.
A light lunch and reorder we set off on the Greenwood. The lunch break seemed to suit some but not others. The Np 6th green was missed and moved to the 12th which Tom took.
Keith B kept his cool playing steady golf (most of the time) and won the day with a total of 52.  Andy retained the runners up trophy from 2020 on count back with Bruce 3rd both on 47. see full results under >> Capt Cup >> Captain Cup Results

A good day was had by all and wanted to return next year with the same format.

See you at Boundary lakes which Tom is arranging.

Tournerbury July 2022

Six players turned up to play a new course Tournerbury on Hayling Island (not to be confused with Turnberry as some thought). It was good to welcome back Senor Philip Lee on a visit from Spain and despite him trying to claim his 17 world handicap he was told to stick to his society 13 handicap.
Despite the recent dry weather the course was in good condition with lush true greens, it took a while to get used to the extra run on the dry fairways with a lot of shots running through the greens.
Keith led the front nine with 17 followed by Phil on 16 , once Rob had found a way of getting out of the bunkers he recovered with a score of 21 on the second nine.
No one managed to hit the green at the first attempt on the 5th Steve taking the honours the second time around on the 14th. Keith was nearest the pin in two on the par 4 10th.
The overall winner on the day (on countback) was Phil with 34 points, Keith 34 points, Rob 33 points. The only handicap change is Phil down to 12.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the day and I think Tournerbury is one to add to the list for the future.
I believe the August game will not take place as the Captains cup is on the 3rd Sept, look out for a confirmation email from Bruce.

Lindfield April 2022

On a windy day 6 people turned up to play. We were told that the greens were being treated (spiked and sanded) , because of this they took off the price for the bacon roll which was a lovely gesture.
Not a bad course plenty of trees a few gentle slops. Bunkers were very hard packed sand. Lovely that the rain stayed away.
Not very high scores by most of us, but Steve won with a score of 31 and a h/cap drop to 20. No one won the nearest the pin. The longest drive was won by me as I was the only one still on the fairway. I hope everyone enjoyed the day. Again well done Steve.

Chiddingfold March 2022

Six players attended Chiddingfold on Saturday for the re arranged game from last month.
All players held a silence prior to the start of the game in memory of Graham Barnes who sadly passed away just over a week ago.
The course played well, if not the players .
A number of 4 shouts and tree strikes were the order of the day.
Nearest the pin on the short 6th was claimed by Keith B with a fine shot.
The second prize was to be nearest in 2 on the 15th across the slope and uphill to the raised green.
Keith put his second through the green leaving it to the second group.
Rob hit a great drive and was 35 yards short of the green with an uphill chip. He thinned his chip to the left of the green ,hit the large tree rebounded and ended up in the middle of the green, as they say its not how its how many.
The leader at halfway was Rob with 21 points , second Keith with a steady 17 points.
The back 9 Rob dropped off and the leading scorer were Tom on 19 and Steve 17.
The final result was Rob winning with 33 points One shot cut, Tom and Keith on 32 points .
The rest enjoyed the day

Chiddingfold Feb 2022

Cancelled due to weather

Cams Hall Jan 2022

Eight members gathered for the 1st society meeting of the New Year. We played the park 9 holes first followed by the front 9 of the creek course.
The conditions were fair with a slight breeze and occasional sunshine. We had two nearest the pin holes on each 9. Nobody managed to hit the target on the 1st nine so we had a nearest the pin on the 18th in two. Two players hit the green and after a lot of discussion the balls were deemed to be exactly the same distance from the pin, a draw was declared.
Unfortunately, we lost Graham after the front 9 as he was rather exhausted following his encounter with Covid. Let’s hope he continues his recovery.
The winner on the day was Keith Beilby who came in with a respectable 30 points, he gets cut to 15. Well done Keith. A close second on 29 was Bruce followed by Andy Sweeney and Jacob Heller on 24 each. Tom scored 22, Rob 20, Rob goes up to22 for the next game. Stuart and Graham were the back markers.
Thank you to all who turned out. Unfortunately, some members did not reply to the invitation emails.
The Next game is at Chiddingfold on the 19th February. Graham will be sending out the details shortly.
